What Her Students Say

Laura Lee Lawrence / Actor

“Cindy Tanas is, in every sense of the word, a teacher. This goes beyond the realm of acting. I don’t only recommend her as an acting teacher, but as a life teacher. Whatever blocks you have as an actor, you inevitably have as a person. Cindy releases these blocks and creates within you the power to go deeper and be more truthful and freer in your acting than you knew was possible. She does not simply refine you as an actor, she propels you into new levels.

Cindy works with all levels, and I have witnessed already brilliant actors have breakthroughs of such dramatic proportions that I could not believe it. Every class is so rich, that there is never a time you aren’t feeling yourself grow. “Intense” is the word that comes to mind. There is an energy in her acting studio that nurtures and protects while simultaneously exposing you in a state of such raw truth that it is nothing short of beautiful.

I cannot imagine anyone in any creative field not benefitting from her classes. They are an investment in your life, one that pays out long term, both personally and professionally.

Having studied with many other acting teachers and acting coaches I can honestly say that I had never experienced anything like her classes, her acting approach is unique, her passion contagious.

If you want to be a great actor, this is for you, if you want to be a great writer, this is for you, if you want to be a great dancer, this is for you, if you want to be great, period, this is for you! I wish everyone I knew could take just one of her classes. They are not just classes, they are personal awakenings. Anyone who has benefited from taking Cindy Tanas’ acting class will have an edge to their work that will separate them from the rest, that is certain.”

Peter Campbell / Actor/Writer

Producer Spiced Reality Productions

“Cindy Tanas changed my life.

I don’t know how I can make it any clearer than that. Her unique ability to somehow reach the core of a human being is, in a word, staggering

Those who know me, remarked on the visible change.

When I first met Cindy, I mentioned to her at my interview in the summer of 2008 that ‘I’m a writer. I don’t know if I even have any desire to be an actor.’

She laughed, in her Cindy laugh way, and assured me that her class was full of people who were not actors: ‘We have writers, directors, singers, dancers…’

It was this that drew me to her Actor’s Instrument classes, Scene Study classes, Workshops, private lessons, Play Scene Studies, on-camera work…

All in all, I spent four amazing years with Cindy – years I would never, ever, take back.
When I ‘left the nest’ in 2012, I was able to enter the world of acting and filmmaking thanks to the wonderful wisdom she imparted.

Since then I’ve had parts in close to 20 short films, several feature films, a role on a TV series, acted opposite some of Cindy’s students (who were one-time classmates), dove back into my First Love (Writing), have just completed production on ‘Amicum’ – the third film for my newly-created production company, Spiced Reality Productions – and am continuing forward.

At the heart of it all, what I learned at Cindy Tanas Actors Studio helped immensely in all those aspects. It’s, as she often said, “taking what you learn out into the world and applying it”.

Thank you Cindy. Truly.”

Malubé Uhindu Gingala / Actress/Filmmaker/Writer

Active on Toronto stages since 2005 and film since 2011; with a variation of classical, contemporary, collective creations, directing and producing under her belt.

“If there’s one word to describe Cindy Tanas Actors Studio space, the word is sacred. You walk into acting class one way and you leave with a better understanding of the world and yourself. Not only did I feel like an acting student but I also felt like a student of life; learning to trust and nurture the instincts instilled in me as well as realizing that what I needed to become a full actor was not outside, but within myself.

Breathing life into the acting work while continuously building compassion for others as well my truth and not being ashamed; but using these truths as a tool to fuel my acting. These are valuable lessons that I learned while studying here. I see the work through different eyes after studying here. Thank you for spreading your gifts of teaching acting with humanity.”

Vaclovas Verikaitis / Writer

“The most outstanding thing about Cindy’s method is her immaculate preparation…Each aspect of her teaching revolves around her leadership in setting an example to her students…and she demands the same from the people she mentors…even beyond the attention to detail to each and every aspect of the craft of acting…Cindy is instinctive and intuitive…she is sensitive to individual character traits…and like any good coach knows how to caress and cajole…to challenge and demand…all in the name of pulling to the surface every ounce of a person’s abilities…everyone who works with her leaves her classes feeling like they ran a marathon…exhausted yet exhilarated as the creative endorphins continue to flow long after the lights in the studio have dimmed…My experience has been transformative…and while exaggeration may be naturally occuring in the DNA of the cadaver known as the “tale”…there is no one that I have known who can interpret a tale and an actor’s ability to deliver it better than Cindy Tanas…”

Eva Hayes / Actress

Real Gangsters (2013)

“Acting teacher Cindy Tanas has a quote, “If you want to work on your art, work on your life” at the end of each of each email she sends me. I have been working with Cindy since 2008, and have seen this idea alive in her teaching since the beginning.

The acting studio she has created is filled with inspiration and beauty. To be a part of any acting class is to be a part of something magical. The learning that takes place is both very practical and cathartic…she teaches how to reveal truth and so creates a space where real art is in the making regardless of experience. Risks can be taken, trust and confidence is organic and nurtured, and the focus is always on the greater picture of the creative process.

Beginner or classically trained actor, the students get the sense that in her studio we learn from one another. The acting work becomes of primary importance and in my experience, has brought to my consciousness why we as human beings need to act, express and story tell. I have learned almost everything I know about acting from Cindy.

I have never left an acting class without feeling filled with her very unique teaching and healing. Even if the goal is just to work on myself, this acting class provides a space for that but, ultimately, I always find there is another lesson or two snuck in. Thank you Cindy for the heart and soul you put into teaching each class.”

Marc Murlock

“I will never forget my time spent with Cindy. A previous acting teacher had told me “if your not scared when you show up to an acting class your in the wrong place”. In the past I had covered up this fear of exposing myself with a well constructed shield of arrogance. Needless to say Cindy recognized this right away and instead of trying to “break me” like many teachers in the past had, she lovingly took my hand and guided me to a place of self acceptance, love and discovery.

I spent three years on and off with Cindy and the more I worked on applying her teachings to my life the more I grew as an actor and a human being. She taught me that there is courage in vulnerability, beauty in ugliness, and most importantly that I am enough. Thank you Cindy for your teachings, wisdom and unconditional love. What a privilege it is to be taught by and know you. I will forever call your studio home!”

Christina Garcia

“Its hard to find the perfect words to describe just how extraordinarily beneficial Cindy’s teachings and tools can be for any actor. Whether you are new to the world of acting and have no idea where to start in utilizing that instrument which is you or you are a seasoned actor who is looking to find new tools for your toolbox, Cindy Tanas Studio’s has a class for you.

I have worked with dozens of different acting teachers throughout the years and I have stopped with Cindy, she has helped me create a process that is truthful and my own and time after time it works. I have taken her tools from audition to set giving me confidence and success in my work. I am forever grateful for having found her classes.”

Leon Ponamarov

“Cindy is a very wise teacher that knows how to adjust to any type of student and help them achieve maximum results. She is amazing person, patient and very caring. She wants you to express yourself fully, she wants you to succeed. That’s her joy, her passion. Meeting her and studying in her studios was one of the most profound experiences I ever had!”

Shadi Shahkhalili / Actress

Change of Heart (2011), Project 11 (2011) andTo Our Bright White Hearts (2012)

“Two quotes I recently read sum up Cindy’s teaching for me. “True leaders create more leaders, not followers”, and “the meaning of life is to give away your gifts”. Cindy Tanas role models these two approaches at her studio.

As an acting teacher she empowers you to own your talent and your work and become your own teacher eventually, to listen and trust yourself so you can give yourself what you need to do your work. She gives you countless acting tools to use that if you don’t know how (like me when I started here).

Cindy gives so much of herself to every student, in every class, and everyone in her class knows they are privileged to be receiving all that she gives as an acting teacher. So they step up to bat. They’re able to go to places inside they haven’t been before, because of the safety and holding Cindy creates in class.

I became an actor through the process of working in this space with this acting teacher and I am forever grateful for everything Cindy and her acting studio have given me and her continuing presence in my life as a teacher, guide, and wise one.

I am indebted to her for her generosity to me and her support of my desire to fulfill my potential. I’m filled with love and respect for Cindy Tanas and her acting studio. After years of searching in a fog, I finally found the acting teacher who was right for me. Thank you for taking me in to your acting studio Cindy, it changed my life for the better. Thank you thank you thank you.”

Greg Gibbons

“Cindy’s approach to character and scene study, goes to depths I had not been exposed to in other classes. She delves into the inner character through complete script analysis, searching out and determining what is really being said to other characters, revealing the complete story of the character though the dialogue and beyond the pages of the script. Cindy guides the actor to explore and discover the character within, through intuition and self discovery. I left each class exhilarated and wanting more!”

Stephanie Marchioni

“Dear Cindy I wanted to thank you for pointing out in class all the ways in which I have been resistant to my own truth, and to have given me the opportunity, with this scene, to challenge myself and to help me face the ways in which I run away. Thank you for pushing me to delve deeper within myself and for holding that experience for me.

I feel myself beginning to come alive as a person and as an actor. You have shown me ways to face things with true humility, love, courage and compassion. Thank you for providing the space, for sharing your deep wisdom, for the invaluable lessons, for your devotion, for your attention, and for your love of the truth. Also for believing in me.

You have had a profound impact on my life. Thank you!”

Jsin Sasha / Actor

The Dowry (2015), 4:30 (2012) and Played (2013)

“The Actors Instrument class has been an incredible experience for me. Every class has been an opportunity to explore who I am, face it, and embrace it. I know how to “get out of my head” and “into by body”. I’ve learned to listen with my whole body…and I now apply it to my everyday life. Thank you Cindy.”

Stella Campbell

“Cindy Tanas is a truly gifted acting coach who I’ve had the pleasure and benefit of working with. She is masterful at working with each actor in a way that addresses where they are at as individuals, both as human beings and as actors, and what lessons are most crucial at every given moment – all the while taking the entire group through carefully planned rudimentary and ground-breaking acting techniques and experiences.

She helps to create actors that are thoughtful and conscious of their choices in every aspect of their craft; that are full of empathy for and understanding of the complexities of the human spirit; that live and breathe and take action in their daily acting work. Cindy practices what she teaches; she is a shining example of both that creative and artistic side, as well as the linear and practical side to this craft. Cindy thank you so very much for your dedication and love to the extraordinary field of acting.”

Khalil Abdul-Malik

“I’ve been training at Cindy Tanas Actors Studio on and off for over 15 years and my time there has been rewarding and enriching in so many ways. When I first came to Cindy, I just really wanted to learn how to act. Instead, Cindy taught me how to live as an actor. While growing up in a Caribbean family, I was taught that showing emotions was a sign of weakness. But my time in Cindy’s acting classes showed me that any form of truthful expression is a strength that I can use as an actor.

Cindy’s approach to acting is unique because she really takes the time to get to know her students so that she can help them individually work on their personal needs & goals as actors. Cindy has taught me how to build a character from the ground up and how to find the soul of each character I play. I will be a lifelong student at Cindy Tanas Actors Studio because I know her acting training will help me always be prepared for whatever role comes my way.”

Regan Brown

“I have worked with acting teacher Cindy Tanas for many years. In that time I have grown as a person and as an actor. Cindy continually pushes me to take risks and explore a deeper truth as an actor. She is extremely supportive, courageous, passionate, open, creative, caring and honest.

Cindy is one of a kind. It always amazes me how each and every class, whether it is Actor’s Instrument or Scene Study, I learn something new. That is saying something about Cindy as an acting teacher, to be able to make it different, challenging, fun, exciting, and insightful each and every time. Her dedication and coaching inspires me to continue on this path and journey as an artist.”

Alex Strauss

“I have been attending Cindy’s studio for almost four years and have felt the incredible impact her teaching has had in my life, both as an actor and as a human being. Cindy has an incredible depth of insight and wisdom with which she guides actors according to their individual needs and helps them grow and flourish. I am sincerely grateful for the amount of hard work she puts into every single class and her honest desire to help each student succeed.

Cindy works with actors according to their individual needs, and peels away the layers to get right to the heart to promote healing, confidence, sincerity, growth, and learning. I want to thank Cindy for her honest desire to help others through her teaching and for offering a safe and non-judgmental environment where I can truly express myself. I am extremely glad to be part of a creative space which houses so much passion, positivity, dedication, maturity, and love for the craft.”

Roselyn Kelada-Sedra / Actress

Unusuality (2011), The Sicilian Accord(2012) and Side Effects (2012)

“Cindy is a uniquely holistic acting teacher. She acknowledges everything that goes into the actor’s craft – the physical, relational, AND spiritual, and she works with them all. She is the only teacher I have ever come across who has taught me how to integrate my spiritual life into my work, and that brings it to a greater, more universal plane of communication.

When I first started working with her, I didn’t live in my body, and she showed me how. She showed me the value of ritual and how to work with my subconscious. She taught me that most vital thing for an actor to live a long life in this craft – boundaries. In years of working with Cindy, I only build up more and more gratitude and respect for her – her grace and strength. Cindy’s fortitude in this world is precious.”

Shawn Venasse / Producer

In the House of Gaudet (2012), La Piscina (2012), Blonde Shell (2012), Sex, Lies and Celebrity Recipes (2002)

“Cindy Tanas has been a constant source of inspiration to me both in my acting/filmmaking career as well as in my personal and other business life in the over 10-years I have been lucky enough to train with her.

Her teaching/training has been so profoundly grounded and at the same time expanding, exciting and enlightening. I have grown in confidence both as an actor and as a human being. I have taken on bigger roles and gone to places that I never knew I could go or reach — willing to take the risks knowing I had the tools, skills and craft.

Cindy has guided me along this path in both acting classes and private coaching…and I have been the better for it. She is priceless, one-of-a-kind acting teacher & human. She brings the goods every single time and with compassion, love and zero ego. I highly recommend her and her studio to anybody looking to be better actors or people.”

Karen Espana / Actress/Director

Todo por Sofia (2016), Kidnap Capitaland Sarah’s Story (2015)

“When I started acting training and working with Cindy Tanas, many years back….I began the self-healing of stripping away all the blocks and layers that had unconsciously accumulated in my body, mind and spirit. I now know the journey never ends as we are always growing and learning as actors. But Cindy taught me the most important acting fundamentals and foundation for my acting craft that I carry with me even in my personal life.

I’ve noticed throughout all of these years, working on myself and my art-form, that acting goes much deeper than the craft. Acting is Life. The more I grew as a person the better actor I became, and I am forever grateful for all the wisdom Cindy taught me and above all, for encouraging me to work on myself holistically.

Because of your amazing and nurturing, direct yet gentle and sincere acting approach; to honing the craft of acting, I’ve been able to find, own, tap into and express the incredible Truth of who I am though all of the character’s I’ve played. Thank you Cindy from the bottom of my heart!”

“I recently landed an ‘Actor’ role in a TIP production film called Kidnap Capital. This grants me my third ACTRA credit and full membership to the union. It’s been a very long and challenging journey and I’m glad I didn’t rush to become a member of the union. With the acting fundamentals that Cindy provided I feel confident that this is the next best move in my acting career and that many doors will open from here-on.”

Rob Horvath

“Cindy Tanas Actors Studio just doesn’t share lessons with you on how to become a better actor. Learning the craft is just one benefit of what participating in the classes at Cindy’s studio offers. Cindy creates a safe space within her studio walls and invites you to join her on a journey. Due to the non-judgemental environment Cindy cultivates, I learned how to open up and be completely vulnerable. Being in this shared safe place allowed me to confront, reveal, and explore aspects of myself that I suppressed or just did not know were there within me.

Cindy is committed to developing and nurturing actors. She invests in every student that walks through her doors. Cindy taps into the truth that connects us, and wants to speak through us, but has been blocked or censored along our way. She has not given up or skipped steps with me when I was blocked. Instead she took the time to work with me, helped me identify where I was at, and enabled me to move to the next step. I’m not going to lie, its hard work, but well worth it.

When you work with Cindy her commitment to truth, continual care, and boundless passion come shining through. Cindy talks with you, not at you. Rather than telling you to achieve a result, she invites you to share yourself with the class. In class I have learned about opening my heart up to a stranger and finding the humanity in everyday moments. I have learned how to listen, really listen. Not only to my surroundings and others, but to myself and my thoughts, feelings, and impulses. I discovered the confidence that here and now I am enough.

I know why people are so passionate about the arts now, I know why people can’t stop once they have the acting bug. There is an ineffable magic that underlies the process of acting. The creative process that Cindy Tanas Actors Studio offers brings that magic.”

Pujaa Panday

“I have been a student at Cindy Tanas studios for two and a half years and love it because it has changed my life. When I began acting it was difficult for me to work with my many blocks. I had studied with other acting teachers and I was still not able to go to dark places during dramatic scenes. This changed when I started acting classes with Cindy Tanas Actors Studio.

I was surprised because within a few classes Cindy had me grounded and out of my head. I was able to drop in and go deeper than I ever thought I could. Cindy gives you a safe space and the tools to approach the work safely. I am now a completely different actor and I have the tools to work with my blocks.

I am also much more confident when going to auditions since attending Cindy’s acting classes. My family and friends have seen a shift in me and I have Cindy to thank. It is this school where I see the most beautiful work because everyone works with their truth. Even after years I am still blown away by every class. Thank you Cindy!”

Brandon Lerderer

“Cindy Tanas has built the safest creative space that I know for actors to just be. In every situation and every class, there is a very high level of trust and openness in her, her instructors and in fellow students. Not once have I been made to feel judged or ashamed of my work or myself and Cindy’s honest and genuine approach has helped propel me light years from where I started in both my personal philosophy and my acting process.

She is real and passionate and will help anyone who is willing to put forth the effort and be open to discovering their instrument’s highest potential and their personal truths that will translate into real, honest and compelling performances.”

Sitara Hewitt / Actress

‘Little Mosque on the Prairie’ Series Lead, CBC

“Cindy’s acting classes are my inspiration and the reason I love acting. Through her passionate, honest teaching I learn both the craft and how to discover what I uniquely have to contribute. As a working actor I take this work with me through my auditions, on to the set and on stage. Cindy says: ‘Life is acting and acting is life.’ Through Cindy I have truly learned that. Her classes leave me feeling elated, full and alive. For as long as I am an artist, I will study here.”

Noor Imran / Actor

Noor’s most recent work has been short films – The Applicant, Creating Our Families (a doc-style short film about surrogate parenthood in the LGBT community; Theatre includes: 3 Desis and a Diva

“It is said that when the student is ready, the teacher will come. I believe it took me three years to find my teacher – Cindy Tanas. Every Actor’s Instrument class with Cindy turned out to be a chance to reacquaint myself with my true self and embrace my truths while quelling the need to create an ideal socially acceptable persona. Herein I learned to feel, to breathe, to be, perchance to start to live again.

Long before I could put my newly acquired knowledge to use in my work, Cindy’s teachings had already inspired me to use them to first work on my own life. I noticed the difference rather quickly. I felt better equipped to be there as a pillar of strength for my family, friends and even casual acquaintances. There was a new found confidence and a sense of strength that not only humbled me but was itself fueled by that very same humility. Once I began dealing with this frontier of my life did I actually feel ready to begin to work as an actor.

Not only did that push me to commit to Cindy’s classes like never before but I finally felt that my work could finally use my new found openness so that it too could live. That is where Cindy’s Scene Study classes came in and opened a whole new world of honest artistry to me.

Cindy’s unique Scene Study classes changed my entire attitude towards “scoring the part”. I felt much less bogged down by the pressure to get the part and more driven to honestly serve the script with such incredible honesty that it is both fearful and liberating.

Cindy’s golden rule of thumb is to make it less about ourselves and more about the character. Simple. But so profound and so empowering. By not worrying about pleasing the casting director and concerning myself more with being the medium to channel a character I actually began to book more acting jobs with diverse characters requiring varying levels of intensity, carrying an assortment of quirks and eccentricities.

And then there are those rare moments of inspiration that each actor worth his/her salt lives and struggles for – the moment the actor is one with the character so much that if the character were hurt the actor would cry out in pain. I was blessed enough to feel those divine moments during my recent work thanks to Cindy’s classes.

Cindy’s teachings enabled me to create a character, make it live, grow, feel, think, act and be affected. It became entirely about the work and the character so fully that it almost didn’t matter whether or not my performance emotionally affected the director or the technical unit.

And yet, each time I step into class at the Cindy Tanas’ Actor’s Studio, I feel like my learning has only just begun. And if that is so, then I am extremely excited for my journey of lifelong learning, growing and working and feeling like I’ve only just begun. That humility is very becoming of an actor.”

Jesse Kelly-Brandes / Actress/Director

Meet My Friend Mr. Hamilton(2012), Falling St. Brigit, Dreaming (2007) and Life Unexpected (2010)

“As an actor who has taken numerous acting classes and gone to acting school in Vancouver, Los Angeles and Toronto, I’d have to say that nothing quite compares to the Cindy Tanas Actors Studio.

The work that happens there can only be described as sacred. The safe space that is created and the respect and love that flows throughout the room truly makes it a place where we as actors can go deep and show our true colours. As an acting teacher Cindy guides us in an incredibly insightful and understanding way to help us go to those deep dark places that we as actors need to be in touch with.

The acting work that I have personally done in her Actors Instrument and Dramatic Scene study classes has truly changed the way I approach my acting work, and I’d recommend her acting classes for anyone from beginner to advanced. These acting classes get you in touch with yourself first, so that you can do the work as truthfully as possible which is the goal of all actors.

I give this acting studio and fabulous acting teacher 5 stars.”

Lili Maiko

“I am so fortunate to have had Cindy Tanas as my first acting teacher. She taught me how to get in touch with my own personal truths and to communicate universally my point of view through my body and words.

Cindy quotes Anton Chekhov in her email signature: “If you want to work on your art, work on your life” for a very specific reason. I have not only found the artist in me, but my personal life has improved tremendously. When my personal emotional energies were unblocked, my capabilities as an actor took off.

Cindy is not only a great acting teacher, she is also a great supporter who roots for all of her acting students – equally. She mindfully creates a space for creativity to be unleashed. It is a no holds bar arena with reminders there are no mistakes in art – they are only another form of creative energy. If I think about the most beautiful pieces of canvas I’ve seen, they’re filled with “imperfections” – and acting is no exception.

Cindy allows her students the freedom to discover, yet at the same time, she is constantly adjusting your “heading” so that each artist is navigating in the most productive and truthful way. It’s very fine balance to master and she knows how to do it!”

Karen Espana / Actor

“Cindy Tanas is my inspiration, my dearest collaborator and a creative mentor unparalleled by anyone I’ve ever worked with or studied acting under. I aspire to teach and to work as an artist with her passion, her expertise and her generous spirit. I give Cindy Tanas my absolute highest recommendation as an acting teacher.”

Gillian Wetherald

“I’ve been taking Cindy’s Tanas’ acting class for about 4 months now, and I’ve noticed huge changes in my life and acting work. Right from the start Cindy guided me to a place of freedom of expression, more so than any other acting teacher I’ve had.

I know if I keep going I will continue to grow and flourish as an actor, especially because I look at the other beautiful souls who take this class and I see a change in them as well. Some have been taking this class for years, and they jump in without fear, or rather, they jump in and commit even though they feel fear. That’s the beautiful thing about Cindy’s teaching, she creates a space where you feel completely comfortable letting out your inner demons, but also inner joy.

I have had the pleasure of releasing some things that I didn’t even know were inside of me, and things that I didn’t think I would have the courage to face. I also feel much more grounded, and that’s thanks to Cindy and her ability to see what’s going on with every student.

She somehow knows exactly what acting approach to take and what to say to each individual student, to get them to take risks, and to fully connect and commit to the acting. You’re connecting to other human beings, and to the amazing energy in the room. I have never felt so invigorated, inspired, open, exhausted, enlightened, and at peace with myself after an acting class. I’m so grateful to be taking these acting classes, and that there’s someone like Cindy Tanas teaching acting in Toronto.”

Jonathan McReady

“Cindy Tanas is a remarkable person and acting teacher. I studied acting and scene study with her a number of years ago. Cindy has a natural gift of being able to ask the right questions of her students in order for them to connect with who they really are and through that process bringing forth what makes them great.

This acting process brings so much authenticity to a role – the actor does not wear the character but rather brings their own truths to that character, making the acting performance compelling and real; leaving the audience wanting more. Cindy’s teaching methods of creating self awareness and trusting in one’s own greatness are as valuable in business as they are on stage and screen.”

Kanza Ferris

“Cindy teaches acting in a magical way! Her acting classes are therapeutic both personally and professionally……..I can’t wait to take another class with her. Even after you are done a class with Cindy I recommend an acting class once a year to polish your craft in a holistic, heart centered way :)) cheers to you Cindy!”

Dina Pino

“Studying with Cindy Tanas Actors Studio has brought me back to the organic. It’s beautiful, natural and has set me in the right place to do good work. The guidance towards being completely present has reminded me why I love to be as an Actress and it has helped my everyday life. The environment provided by Cindy Tanas and the rest of the support staff is truly magical, revealing, supportive and exhilarating.”

Karen Khan

“Cindy is insightful, intuitive and has the ability to go into one’s soul and bring back the truth. Cindy has raised the bar as an acting teacher!”

Katie McCowan

“The time I spent in Cindy Tanas’ acting classes were among the most life changing, beautifying, deepening, inspiring, and extraordinarily real experiences I’ve ever had. So grateful for this amazing woman…”

Lionel Boodlal

“The wisdom that acting teacher Cindy Tanas imparts through her teaching has laid a foundation for me to delve into the depths of each character I have the privilege of playing. The environment she creates provides a safe place for me to play and truly connect with the universality of the human condition.

Through exploring my own inner world from a grounded place Cindy has facilitated my growth as an actor and a person. Her teaching is indispensable in an industry consumed with ego.”

Llyane Stanfield

“Cindy’s acting workshop is about training actors to commit to their impulses. Truly rare, because it resorts to the body, and not the mind, and THIS is the point to start from, in order to tap into the intuition and the genius of the moment. The results? Spectacular!

Transformation of the body and mind, bursts of creativity and comfort in my own skin.

As a person and an actor – truly cannot put a value on it!

Thank you so much, Cindy, for crafting this approach and sharing it with us!”

Cranla Warren

“When people ask me what I have learned from the acting class they seem to be
looking to hear about different “techniques”. In feeling that I really do
“get it” I am not in class dissecting the “lessons” yet I seem to leave with
them integrated into my being. I inevitably arrive entrenched in my head and
through your facilitation of experiences I leave transformed from a human
thinking – meaning making machine into a human “being”.

When I am in that state of existence I simply am and all sorts of emotions,
experiences and revelations flow through me. I am taking away a ton for
which I am truly grateful to you and your most uncommon gift. I honour this
experience by not reducing it into the language of what I have “learned”
because it has been a gift which is simply richly integrated into “me”.

In a related way it reminds me of when The Buddha was asked what he “got”
from mediation he responded “nothing”…and then went on to share that what
he had gained was a loss of anxiety, loss of fear of sickness, old age,
death etc. He was in a state of peace – grounded centered- awareness.
Similar to Buddha I take away an extraordinary sense of strength, peace,
freedom from fear (I have bared my soul in front of many others over many
weeks – what is left to fear) and a state of joyful fullness from my Cindy
Tanas Actors Studio experience.”

Danelene O’Flynn

“Ten years ago I met Cindy Tanas for the first time. As and acting teacher she has so much love, talent, wisdom and respect for humanity. I will be forever grateful to have been a part of this acting studio built from a pure heart; to be witness to the magic she has created behind the doors year after year.

Cindy Tanas is the most gifted and compassionate acting teacher/director I have ever come across. She loves every character and human unconditionally and has taught us to give a voice to those that can not speak, allowing only truth to unfold. She has touched hundreds of actors/beings throughout the years that have walked through the doors of Cindy Tanas Actors Studio. We are all better human beings, not just actors and I thank you for that.”

“The Cindy Tanas Actors Studio has allowed me to grow as both an actor and a person. The classes are experiential and a safe place for me to explore all parts of myself and work through blocks I have.

Cindy cares deeply about all of her students. She uses a variety of methods and exercises as an acting teacher and tailors to each individual- there is no ‘cookie cutter’ approach.

I highly recommend her class both for beginner actors and actors wishing to go deeper in their work. Since I started two years ago I have become more grounded, more confident, and feel that I am armed with more tools to approach my work on a deeper level. The Cindy Tanas Actors studio is the real deal for connected, emotional, and truthful work.”

“I had my life changed by Cindy Tanas Actors Studio. I became more truthfully connected to my muse as a singer and actor, and I live a more creative life in general. On a personal note, the excellent acting techniques Cindy taught me for grounding and centering helped me channel, process and understand my emotions not just in performing, but also helped me weather two of the most difficult emotional years of my life.”

“Working with Cindy Tanas was a very profound experience.

Her expertise helped me in many ways, utilizing various acting techniques such as breathing and relaxation and how to personalize with the character you are playing, and to never take the scene objective or overall objective for granted.

Additionally, Cindy’s work taught me not only the importance of making strong choices as an actor, but also how to live through challenging real life situations. Coupling Cindy’s various acting classes with one-on-one training sessions were extremely beneficial. I am very grateful for the impact Cindy Tanas has had as an acting teacher on both my acting ability and in my life.”

Cindy has an incredible depth of insight and wisdom as an acting teacher…with which she guides actors according to their individual needs and helps them grow and flourish.

I am sincerely grateful for the amount of hard work she puts into every single acting class and her honest desire to help each student succeed.

“Studying with acting teacher Cindy Tanas was a pivotal part of my creative healing as a person and as an actor. As the quote goes,’if you want to work on your art, work on your life’, Cindy helped me to gain access and work on those parts of me that were getting in the way of my creativity. They were blocks I didn’t know I had prior to working with Cindy. I can now access the parts of me with my imagination and I am in a state of wonder at how practical this acting approach is. Thank you Cindy.”

She is extremely supportive, courageous, passionate, open, creative, caring and honest. Cindy is one of a kind. It always amazes me how each and every class, whether it is Actor’s Instrument or Scene Study, I learn something new. That is saying something about Cindy as an acting teacher, to be able to make it different, challenging, fun, exciting, insightful each and every time. “Learning to be a great actor is synonymous with learning to express yourself powerfully in all areas of life. Great actors know who they are (or savor the ambiguity of it all). Cindy’s work accelerates your development along that path.”

Stephanie Marchioni

“I wanted to thank you for pointing out in class all the ways in which I have been resistant to my truth, and to have given me the opportunity with this scene to challenge myself and to face the ways in which I run away- and for being there to push me and to hold that experience for me.

I feel myself beginning to grow again and come alive as a person and as an actor- even if it’s little bud at the moment- I am committed to this exploration.

You have shown me ways to face things with true humility, love and compassion. Thank you for providing the space, and for sharing your deep wisdom, for the invaluable lessons, for your attention, and your love of the truth, and for believing in me. You have had a profound impact on my life. Thank you.”

“As far as I know Cindy Tanas is the only Canadian artist in Toronto who teaches Archetype work as an acting technique effectively. I have always been fascinated by this technique and Cindy not only taught me how to use this technique as part of an acting preparation, she taught us how to discover the nature of our own emotions and embrace all sub-personalities within us, therefore enhance our empathetic understanding of others.

I am grateful to have been associated with her and her influence on my understanding of the conscious and the unconscious that exist within me. Constant reminders of her principles have enabled me to ground myself and stay connected to the moment, in my professional life and my personal life.
Thank you Cindy. Wishing success and happiness to you and yours…”

“Cindy has had a huge impact on my career as an artist. The classes have been nothing short of an intense emotional, spiritual and physical journey into the heart and soul of a character…. and to my character’s truth.

She has deeply inspired me with her passionate, honest and intuitive teachings and she always gives 100% to the work.

I take her teachings with me to every audition, every performance. Today I am finding success in my endeavours because of Cindy’s classes. I am truly grateful for having her in my life and for as long as long as she is a teacher, I will be a student.”

George Santino

“Cindy facilitates the actor in their search for that grain of personal truth from which the ‘character’ can be born. Her process teaches the actor to dig beyond the surface layers of formality and social grace to the place where the true human condition lurks.
We learn to listen with not only our ears, but with our bodies and our minds. The environment is a reverent and safe one, where the artist can learn to truly risk, reveal, and trust their instinct, which is ultimately the name of the game. The work can be gruelling, but the payoff is infinitely worth it.”

Carilynn Nicholson

“Cindy is a very enthusiastic and nurturing teacher who ensures a safe, wonderfully freeing environment that really makes you feel like you’re part of something special. She has a keen eye for what is real and affecting-there is no hiding from Cindy!

Her highly effective techniques have helped me get out of my head and into my body so I can really feel like and therefore, be, the character. Cindy has given me a deeper appreciation for the art of acting-she is a life-changing teacher whom I highly recommend.”

Michael Dufays

Cindy is a teacher that loves the craft of acting and approaches the work with the highest integrity.”

Denise McLeod
